Why did you choose this particular frame fork set up?
The frame was kindly given to me by Mike ‘Rooftop’ Escamilla as he has his second edition of his Caveman frame out with United and wanted me to rep the frame.
Fork wise I went with the Alone Hitch forks, sadly James was wrapping up his company/distro when I built my last frame up so carried these across from that setup.
What sort of riding does your F+F set up suit?
Someone quite short haha, it’s quite responsive for spins and whatnot but also comfortable in the air.
What’s the steering set up like (ie Stem, Bar rake, Bar height etc)?
In all honesty not a clue, I have a top load stem and I think the Relic bars are 9” rise.
Which parts of your set up are “Old man friendly”?
I would defo say everytime I set up a new frame the seat height goes up slightly.
Brand loyalty. What makes you run the brands you use?
When I built this last bike I tried to go with as many independent or close rider owned companies for all the parts.
Is there a part of your set up that’s stayed fairly consistent with over the years?
I have always run Tech 77 levers ever since I was 15. Every lever I see come out nowadays just doesn’t have that classic look and feel like a Tech 77 does.
Is there one that has changed a lot?
Well the bashguard is pretty different, or as the lad at the skatepark referred to it as the ‘sump.’ Only recently just unlocked many tricks using it. Bashguard crooked grinds work really well with it.
How has your perfect set up changed throughout the BMX eras?
I wouldn’t say it has, as we all did (well most of us) I went through a phase of having all the daft weight saving bits like Chris King headsets, Nokon cables etc but setup wise pretty much the same for years. The front brake was a mid life crisis that has stuck as I still have a hearty list of to do’s before I retire that one.
Any custom made or custom mods on your bike?
As I said earlier I tried to get as many independent bike parts for my bike as it was my first real custom build since before my sponsorship days so I got my bar ends from Matt Berringer and my stem/sprocket from the Maniac over in Maine.
